Martin, Olshevski Claim ECC Weekly Softball Honors

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Mar. 28, 2016) - After stellar showings in the circle last week, LIU Post softball junior Ashley Martin (Long Beach, N.Y.) and freshman Hannah Olshevski (Robbinsville, N.J.) were individually recognized as the East Coast Conference Pitcher and Rookie of the Week.

Martin boasted a 3-0 record with a 0.33 earned-run average and 23 strikeouts over her three starts. She recorded back-to-back complete-game shutouts of University of Bridgeport (Mar. 24) and St. Thomas Aquinas College (Mar. 26), fanning 11 and eight batters in the two victories, respectively.

Martin, who has won her previous four decisions, has pitched to a 7-3 mark and an ECC-best 0.94 ERA so far this season. Her .193 batting average against ranks second in the conference.

Olshevski compiled an identical 3-0 record in three starts last week for the Pioneers. She posted a 0.67 ERA and did not yield a walk, while limiting opposing hitters to a minuscule .110 BAA.

Olshevski allowed just one run in consecutive complete-game wins against Dowling College (Mar. 22) and Bridgeport, before tossing her second shutout of the year in a 5-0 win over STAC.

Olshevski currently paces the league in wins (8) and leads all of Division II in walks allowed per seven innings (0.24). She is also fourth amongst the ECC's leaders in ERA (1.73) and fifth in batting average against (.205).

Martin, Olshevski and the Pioneers are back in action Wednesday (Mar. 30), when they head to Flushing for a 3 p.m. doubleheader at ECC rival Queens College.
