FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 30, 2016) - On Wednesday, the LIU Post softball team split a doubleheader with East Coast Conference rival Queens College at the QC Softball Field in Flushing.

Game #1: LIU Post 2, Queens 3
Though the Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the Pioneers answered right back in their half of the second to even the score.

Following back-to-back singles by senior third baseman Maria Palmeri (Middle Village, N.Y.) and senior designated player Paige Swantek (Smithtown, N.Y.) to open the frame, junior second baseman Kayla McCoy (Smithtown, N.Y.) laced a two-out, two-RBI single to left to tie the game at 2-2.

But, in the last of the second, Queens got one back. An RBI single by sophomore infielder Alyssa Neal (Paramus, N.J.) scored freshman infielder Lauren Pascual (Woodland Hills, Calif.) for the go-ahead run.

That proved to be all the Knights needed to take the opener, as the Pioneers stranded just one runner in scoring position for the remainder of the contest.

In the circle, junior pitcher Ashley Martin (Long Beach, N.Y.) tossed six innings of four-hit, three-run (two earned), one-walk, three-strikeout ball in the loss.

Game #2: LIU Post 2, Queens 0
During the nightcap, freshman pitcher Hannah Olshevski (Robbinsville, N.J.) held Queens (6-8, 4-3 ECC) to just two hits, while fanning four in a complete-game shutout effort.

Palmeri provided all the scoring for LIU Post (16-6, 9-1 ECC), driving an RBI double in the first and third innings. She finished a combined 3-for-5 in the doubleheader.

Pascual took the loss in the decision for the Knights. She gave up five hits and two runs and struck out seven in seven innings of work.

Head Coach Jamie Apicella and the Pioneers return to action Thursday (Mar. 31), when they host Southern Connecticut State University at the LIU Post Softball Complex at 2 p.m.
