CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Apr. 12, 2016) - For the second time this season, LIU Post softball junior
Ashley Martin (Long Beach, N.Y.) claimed East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.
Martin helped the Pioneers to a 4-1-1 record last week, including a sweep of No. 25 Southern New Hampshire University. She pitched to the tune of a 2-0 record with a 1.40 earned-run average and 19 strikeouts.
Martin, who also limited opposing hitters to a .189 batting average against, got the week started last Tuesday (Apr. 5) by firing a complete-game two-hitter with six strikeouts in a 6-1 win over Mercy College.
Then, on Sunday, Martin threw a four-hit complete-game shutout, as LIU Post blanked SNHU, 2-0. She allowed only two runners to reach scoring position over the first six innings in the contest.
Martin currently leads the ECC this year in ERA (1.07) and shutouts (6), while ranking second in strikeouts (97), fourth in wins (10) and fifth in strikeouts per game (6.47).
Martin and the Pioneers are back at it Tuesday (Apr. 12), when they face New York Institute of Technology in an ECC doubleheader at 2:30 p.m. in Old Westbury.
