BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (Apr. 13, 2016) - The No. 3/3 LIU Post women's lacrosse team suffered an 8-5 setback to No. 12/14 Dowling College Wednesday in East Coast Conference action at Golden Lions Field.

Tied 2-2 at the half, the Pioneers (9-3, 4-1 ECC) grabbed a 4-3 lead with 22:33 remaining in regulation on a free-position tally by freshman midfielder Trish Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y.).

However, the Golden Lions (11-1, 5-0 ECC) answered back with four consecutive goals to pull in front 7-4 at the 5:27 mark. Junior attacker Alyssa Milano (Rocky Point, N.Y.) accounted for the equalizer and the go-ahead goal for the hosts.

Dowling never looked back from there, as LIU Post was limited to just one shot on net in the final 5:27. That attempt resulted in a Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) goal that cut the deficit to 7-5 with less than three minutes left.

Bird registered two goals in the contest. Brisotti, senior attacker Jessica Marsh (Sayville, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa.) added tallies, as well.

Senior defender/midfielder Honey Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) scooped up a game-high four draws and caused two turnovers. Junior defender/midfielder Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) led all players with six caused turnovers.

Between the pipes, sophomore goalie Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made eight saves for the Pioneers, who edged the Golden Lions in draw controls, 8-7. LIU Post also converted 3-of-6 (50.0 percent) free-position shots.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and her LIU Post squad continue their four-game road trip Saturday (Apr. 16), when they head to Sparkill for a 1 p.m. opening draw at ECC foe St. Thomas Aquinas College.
