BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 30, 2016) - The No. 5/8 LIU Post women's lacrosse team exploded for 15 unanswered goals Saturday to defeat East Coast Conference foe Mercy College, 16-2, on Saturday at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Trailing 2-1 nearly 10 minutes into the first half, the Pioneers (14-3, 7-1 ECC) closed out the period on a five-goal run to bring a 6-2 lead into the locker room.

Emily Delaney (Long Valley, N.J.) and freshman midfielder
Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa.) netted back-to-back unassisted tallies to get it started. Junior attacker
Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) and junior defender/midfielder
Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) followed with free-position goals.
In the latter session, LIU Post broke the game open, outscoring Mercy (12-5, 5-3 ECC) by a 10-0 count in the period, en route to securing its fifth-straight win. Bird, McKinney, Delaney red-shirt junior attacker
Alexis Newman (Medford Lakes, N.J.) and freshman attacker
Trish Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y.) all found the back of the cage twice to account for the scoring.
Bird, who won three draws, and Delaney each amassed a game-high-tying six points (3 G, 3 A) in the victory. McKinney registered three goals, while adding three ground balls, one draw and one caused turnover.
Between the pipes, sophomore goalie
Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and senior cageminder
Kasey Kephart (Nesconset, N.Y.) made three saves apiece for the Pioneers. Kirk also scooped up three ground balls and forced two turnovers.
In all, LIU Post outshot Mercy, 28-16, in the contest. The Pioneers had the advantage over the Mavericks in ground balls (18-10) and draw controls (13-7), as well.
