BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 6, 2016) - Junior attacker Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) recorded a career-high seven points Wednesday afternoon, as the No. 3/3 LIU Post women's lacrosse team beat University of Bridgeport, 15-1, in an East Coast Conference match-up at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

Bird led all players with five goals and had two assists in the effort. She also won a game-best four draws. Red-shirt junior attacker Alexis Newman (Medford Lakes, N.J.) notched two goals and one assist for a three-point day. Freshmen midfielders Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa.) and Trish Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y.) tallied two goals apiece.

In the first half, the Pioneers (8-2, 3-0 ECC) scored on nearly half of its shot attempts to take a commanding 9-0 lead into the break. Bird paved the way, collecting four goals and a pair of assists in the period.

Then, in the latter stanza, McKinney got in on the offensive barrage, striking twice in the opening 8:13. Freshman attacker Lindsay Montgomery (Valley Stream, N.Y.) added her first collegiate goal at the 3:59 mark.

For the game, LIU Post outshot Bridgeport (4-5, 0-3 ECC) by a 5-to-1 margin (31-6). It held a 28-17 advantage in ground balls and a 12-6 edge in draw controls, as well.

Between the pipes, sophomore goalie Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and senior cageminder Kasey Kephart (Nesconset, N.Y.) combined to make three saves for the Pioneers.

Junior defender/midfielder Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) amassed four ground balls, three draws and two caused turnovers in the victory. Junior midfielder Kelly Backus (Oceanside, N.Y.) forced three turnovers and scooped up two ground balls.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and her LIU Post squad wrap up their three-game homestand Saturday (Apr. 9), when they face ECC foe University of the District of Columbia at noon at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
