Women's Soccer Falls to Bridgeport in ECC Opener, 2-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 14, 2016) - The LIU Post women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to East Coast Conference rival University of Bridgeport Wednesday at Pioneer Soccer Park.
The Pioneers (2-2-1, 0-1 ECC) managed three shots on goal, while the Purple Knights (3-1, 1-0 ECC) had four shots on target.
In the 11th minute, Bridgeport got on the board. Idoia Agirre (Legazpi, Spain) cleaned up a loose ball in front of the net for her second goal of the season.
Later, in the 21st minute, the Purple Knights struck again. This time, Shannon Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.) converted a one-touch shot past sophomore keeper
Hillevi Eklow (Väröbacka, Sweden) for the 2-0 lead.
The Pioneers' lone scoring chance of the second half came in the 51st minute, when sophomore back/midfielder
Alice Schonfeldt's
(Burtrask, Sweden) shot was saved by Bridgeport goalie Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden).
In the 75th minute, freshman forward
Julia Duffy (Oceanside, N.Y.) sent a shot high, before the game was called due to weather.
Head Coach
Mark Dawson and the Pioneers return to action on Saturday (Sept. 17), when they take on Queens College in an ECC tilt. Kickoff is slated for noon.
