EASTON, Mass. (Sept. 24, 2016) - Sophomore forward/midfielder
Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) scored two goals Saturday to lead the No. 2 LIU Post field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over fifth-ranked Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up at W.B. Mason Stadium.
It is the second time this season that the Pioneers (6-0, 3-0 NE-10) have shut out a nationally-ranked opponent (East Stroudsburg - Sept. 12). Through six contests, the green and gold have outscored their opposition, 17-4.
Miller didn't take long to get going. In the eighth minute, she drove the game's opening shot past Stonehill (5-2, 2-1 NE-10) sophomore goalie Sara Freedman (Hopkinton, Mass.) to put LIU Post in front early, 1-0.
The Pioneers held the Skyhawks without a shot on goal in the opening 35 minutes, and eventually carried a 1-0 advantage into the intermission.
In the second half, Miller and junior midfielder
Alyssa Lopresti (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored 1:17 apart in the first two-plus minutes of the period to break the game open.
First, it was Lopresti. Less than two minutes into the half, she tapped in a cross-pass from Miller, making it a 2-0 game.
Just over a minute later, Miller forced a Stonehill turnover and laced a shot into the cage for her second tally of the contest.
Between the pipes, LIU Post senior goalie
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) turned aside all seven shots she faced, all of which came in the second half. Freedman made six saves for Stonehill.
Head Coach
Raenee Savin and the Pioneers are back in action Thursday (Sept. 29), when they host Pace University in a non-conference tilt at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium at 4 p.m. in Brookville, N.Y.
