Box Score
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 11, 2017) - The LIU Post women's basketball team erased an 11-point halftime deficit Wednesday, but lost 72-69 to University of Bridgeport in an East Coast Conference clash at the Pratt Recreation Center.
Down 50-40 nearly midway through the third quarter, the Pioneers (8-8, 5-2 ECC) came back with a 14-2 run to grab a 54-52 lead at the 4:02 mark. Senior guards
Kylie Garrett (Mount Orab, Ohio) and
Kristen Olsen (Staten Island, N.Y.) drained
back-to-back threes in the spurt. Freshman guard
Dominique Williams (Queens Village, N.Y.) put the hosts in front with a pair of makes at the line.
Late in the fourth quarter, the green and gold still held a two-point edge (66-64), until a quick 6-0 response by the visitors gave the Purple Knights (9-8, 3-4 ECC) a 70-66 advantage with 2:23 remaining.
The Pioneers, who eventually trailed 72-69 in the final seconds, had an opportunity to force overtime though. However,
Shannon Doyle's
(Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) game-tying three-point attempt at the buzzer came up short of the mark.
Garrett paced all scorers in the contest, amassing 20 points in 26 minutes off the bench. She shot 5-of-8 (four three-pointers) from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 at the stripe. Sophomore forward
Sasha Patterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded her second double-double (17 points, 11 rebounds) of the year. Olsen added eight points and three rebounds, while senior forward
Janaysia James (Perth Amboy, N.J.) pitched in six points, six rebounds and two assists.
Head Coach
Deirdre Moore and her LIU Post squad return to action Saturday (Jan. 14), when they face ECC rival Queens College at 3:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Gymnasium in Flushing.
