Women's Basketball Falls to Molloy in ECC Clash, 65-45

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 18, 2017) - On Wednesday night, the LIU Post women's basketball team suffered a 65-45 setback to East Coast Conference foe Molloy College at the Pratt Recreation Center.
Sophomore guard
Shannon Doyle (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) had a team-best 12 points and eight rebounds in the defeat. Senior guard
Kylie Garrett (Mount Orab, Ohio) chipped in nine points off the bench. Sophomore guard
Kyla Formey (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman guard
Asia Turner (Philadelphia, Pa.) each added six points. Red-shirt freshman guard
Robyn Francis (Rosedale, N.Y.) earned seven rebounds, three points and three blocks.
Down 18-9 early in the second quarter, the Pioneers (8-10, 5-4 ECC) rallied with a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to a four-point game (20-16) at the 6:04 mark. Doyle knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the stretch.
However, the Lions (15-4, 7-2 ECC) closed the first half on a 9-2 burst, which widened the gap to 35-23 at the break. Freshman guard Kathryn Gibson (Neponsit, N.Y.) sank two treys to help expand Molloy's advantage to double digits.
From there, the visitors never let go of their grip on the lead. The Pioneers twice came within a nine-point margin in the third quarter, but that was as close as they came in the latter 20 minutes of play.
