Brookville, N.Y. – The LIU Post women's volleyball team earned a hard fought 3-2 victory over ECC rival NYIT inside the Pratt Recreational Center on Wednesday night.
The Pioneers improve to 22-4 on the year and still sit in first with an 8-2 conference mark, as the Bears fall to 18-7 (6-4 ECC).
Down 23-20, the Pioneers cut its deficit to one (23-24) but the Bears closed out the final point and would go up 1-0 in the match.
Despite falling behind 21-20 in the second set, LIU Post collected four out-of-the final five points to earn a 25-22 victory. In the third set, up 21-20, LIU Post put together a 4-1 run to earn a 25-21 win and take the 2-1 advantage.
Failing to wrap up the match in the fourth set, LIU Post, down 5-4 in the fifth, exploded with a 4-0 run to put the hosts up 8-5. A 4-0 run by NYIT brought the game within two (14-12), and forced LIU Post to take a timeout. After stoppage
Rachel Londot went up and tallied her third kill of the set to clinch a 3-2 match victory over the Bears
LIU Post's offense was powered by Londot who put down 13 kills and registered a season-high 24 digs for her 11th double-double of the season, and her fourth consecutive.
Danielle Valenza added 11 kills and 13 digs on the night.
Gulia Genna dished out a team-high 19 assists and
Kassie Akouri-Tejedor tallied 16 assists. Londot tallied a season-high 24 digs
