Women's Tennis Falls to NYIT in ECC Semis

Flushing, N.Y. – The second-seeded LIU Post women's tennis team saw its 2017 season come to an end on Friday afternoon with a 5-4 loss to third-seeded NYIT in the semifinal round of the East Coast Conference Championship.
With the loss, the Pioneers wrap their season with an 8-3 record as the Bears improve to 7-3 and advance to the conference final.
LIU Post earned the match's first point when
Charlotte Hynes and
Christina Jud earned an 8-3 victory and third doubles, before Alessia Rossetti and Kaitilin Byrnes took down
Shanice Arthur and
Stanislava Klymova at second doubles. The Pioneers bounced back and took the 2-1 advantage with an 8-5 win at first doubles.
Second singles would go to the Bears, but
Christina Jud responded back with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Rosa LaCorte. Antonella Lopez's 6-3, 6-0 win brought the game to a 3-3 deadlock
Veronkia Koudelkova was able to bring the Pioneers within a match away from (4-3) with her 6-2, 6-1 victory over Kaitlin Byrnes at the fourth court.
Facing elimination, Ivana Andric took matter into her own hands and defeated Klymova in straight sets (6-1, 6-3) and found themselves locked in a 4-4 tie, meaning the winner of the fifth singles match would advance to the final.
In that fixture, NYIT's Lena Dimmer who responded to a first-set defeat with a 6-3 win of her own in the second, but it was Dimmer that earned a 6-3 win in the third set to clinch the 5-4 upset win for the Bears.
