Bridgeport, Conn. – The LIU Post women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the University of Bridgeport in the regular season's final match on Saturday afternoon
Despite the loss, the Pioneers (14-2-1, 7-1 ECC) still remain the top seed and captured the program's first regular season title since 2014. The Purple Knights (8-7-2, 4-3-1 ECC) fall to the fourth seed in the standings and are now tasked to take on LIU Post in the ECC semifinal round of the championship on Wednesday.
In the first half that saw the hosts outshoot the visitors 10-2, the Purple Knight struck first when Maegan Doyle banged home the game-winning goal off a ball from Sara Berglund in the 20th minute.
After entering break down 1-0 LIU Post dictated play in the second half, the Pioneers eventually outshot the Purple Knights 8-2 in the period but could not find an equalizer.
Hillevi Eklow made a total of seven saves on the afternoon while Jennifer Wendelius turned away three shots.
The Pioneers will host the University of Bridgeport in the semifinal round of the East Coast Conference Championship on Wednesday, November 1 at 1 p.m. Follow the action with live stats and video
