BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 6 ranked LIU Post women's soccer team battled American International to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon from Pioneer Soccer Park. The draw extends the unbeaten streak for the Pioneers (9-1-1) to six games, the longest of the season.

AIC (3-5-2) took the lead in the 24th minute, as the Yellow Jackets netted a tally with a distanced shot that fooled the Pioneer goalkeeper and found the back of the net. Both teams traded chances in the first half with the shots nearly even following the first 45 minutes.

However, the second half saw the Pioneers take control of the game; dominating possession and firing multiple shots on goal. Julia Duffy (Oceanside, N.Y.) fired a shot in the 75th minute that ricochet off the post and stayed out to keep the Yellow Jackets in the lead. But, in the 82nd minute LIU Post found the break it was looking for when Kristen Breihof (Levittown, N.Y.) placed a corner into the box where it fell to the feet of Alice Schonfeldt (Burtrask, Sweden), and the redshirt sophomore powered home her fifth goal of the season to send the game into overtime tied at 1-1.

The 29 shots for the Pioneers were the second-most of the season, falling behind only the 33-shot outburst against Nyack in September.

Junior goalkeeper Hillevi Eklow (Varobacka, Sweden) made six saves in the match for the Pioneers, including a diving stop in the final seconds of the game.

LIU Post returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 11, when the Pioneers travel to Flushing for a ECC battle with Queens College.
