Women's Volleyball Drops Hard-Fought ECC Semifinal Match to NYIT, 3-2

Box Score Rockville Centre, N.Y.- The LIU Post women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision (21-25, 25-20, 24-26, 25-14, 12-15) to NYIT in the semifinal round of the ECC Championship at Quealy Gymnasium on Friday night.

With the loss the Pioneers fall to 28-5 on the year and wait for a potential at-large bid on Sunday, while the Bears move on to the championship final with a 25-7 record.

Despite dropping the first set 25-21, the Pioneers fought back in the second set using a 5-0 run to jump ahead of NYIT 18-14, before taking the 25-20 second-set victory.

LIU Post built as much as a nine-point lead (20-11) in the third set, until a 11-2 spurt by the Bears leveled the game 22-22. The Pioneers regained the lead 24-23 but the Bears tallied back-to-back points to edge out LIU Post 26-24.

In the fourth set, LIU Post trailed 4-2 early on, until an 8-3 run put the green and gold in from 10-7. Junior outside hitter Rachel Londot tallied three kills in the run.

The Pioneers widen their lead by seven points (20-13), on attack error by NYIT to force a Bears' timeout. The Pioneers would take the third set by a 25-14 count courtesy of a Danielle Valenza kill.

In the fifth set, NYIT jumped out to a commanding 8-3 lead. However, LIU Post used a 6-0 run to come back within one (13-12). Shortly thereafter, a Tiffany Verni kill and a Londot attack error stifled the Pioneers' comeback attempt as the Bears earned the fifth-set 15-12 victory.

Londot led the team with 17 kills in the contest. She also totaled 16 digs and two blocks. Danielle Valenza tallied nine kills and collected a match-high 34 digs. Giulia Genna allocated 20 assists, while collecting nine digs.

Head Coach Amanda Ostapow and her LIU Post squad await their potential at-large bid this Monday (Nov. 20) at 7:30 p.m.
