Wrestling Opens 2017-18 Season at Dragon Invitational Hosted by Drexel

 
Philadelphia, PA | The LIU Post wrestling team opened the 2017-18 season in the Dragon Duals on Sunday as they suffered a pair of losses to Pitt-Johnstown and Drexel University. The Pioneers and Mountain Cats faced off in the day's first dual, in which Pitt-Johnstown defeated LIU Post, 37-3. In the second dual Drexel bested LIU Post, 40-3.
 
In the first dual against No. 6 Pitt-Johnstown, Sam Holandez opened with a 10-6 decision at 125 lbs. as the Mountain Cats picked up back-to-back wins with a 9-0 win over Joe Paterno at 133 lbs., and pinning Danny Espiniera at 6:04 to give Pitt-Johnstown a 12-0 advantage.
 
LIU Post got its lone win at 149 lbs. with ninth-ranked Joe Calderone's 5-3 decision over Dorey Falleroni.
 
However, Pitt-Johnstown answered back by winning the final six bouts. Cody Law outlasted T.J. Fabian, 5-3, at 157 lbs. and Jackson Mordente was bested by Devin Austin, 4-1 at 165 lbs.
 
Pitt-Johnstown increased its lead to 21 (24-3) Tyler Reinhart pinned Dan Akrow at 1:31 in the 174-lb. bout.
 
At 184 lbs., Dan McClure fell to Steve Edwards 11-1, and Levi Niebauer defeated Bobby Pease, 9-2, to make it 31-3 with one match remaining.
 
Pitt-Johnstown closed it out 37-3 victory pinning Gregg Hodulick at the 2:50 mark.

In LIU Post's second dual of the day the Pioneers fell quickly lost the first three matches via pin-fall. Joe Calderone earned what would be the Pioneers' only points of the dual as he edged Nick Widmann at 149, 5-4. The Dragons answered back with an 8-1 win over Fabian before earning a major decision win over Mordente at 165. Drexel finished things off with a 4-1 decision over Gregg Hodulick in the heavyweight match to down the Pioneers 40-3.
