SPARKILL, N.Y. (Feb. 1, 2017) - The LIU Post women's basketball team came up short Wednesday in a 59-48 loss to East Coast Conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas College at Aquinas Hall.

Freshman forward Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) scored a game-high 16 points and added two blocks for the Pioneers (9-12, 5-6 ECC) in the effort. Senior guard Kylie Garrett (Mount Orab, Ohio) collected 14 points, two rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes off the bench.

The Spartans (15-7, 9-4 ECC) came out of the gate strong, opening the contest on a 12-2 run. Junior forward Adiya Henderson (Troy, N.Y.) accounted for four of the points in the spurt, off a pair of jumpers.

STAC eventually built as much as a 16-point advantage (24-8) midway through the second quarter, before LIU Post answered with a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 24-18 at the 1:59 mark.

Garrett went off for 10 of her 14 points in the burst, including a pair of three-pointers. Red-shirt freshman guard Robyn Francis (Rosedale, N.Y.) sank a jumper to ignite the comeback.

However, the Spartans, who led 26-18 at the break, re-gained their double-digit lead in the early stages of the third quarter and never looked back.

Sophomore guard Shannon Doyle (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) had eight points and three rebounds for the Pioneers. Francis accumulated five points and a team-high six rebounds. Sophomore forward Sasha Patterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) crashed the glass for five rebounds.

Head Coach Deirdre Moore and her LIU Post squad wrap up their three-game road trip Saturday (Feb. 4), when they face ECC rival New York Institute of Technology at 1 p.m. in Old Westbury.
