ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 11, 2017) - On Saturday, the LIU Post women's basketball team squandered a 17-point first-half lead in a 78-70 loss to Roberts Wesleyan College in an East Coast Conference clash at the Voller Athletic Center.
Freshman forward
Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) exploded for a game-high 26 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field. She grabbed nine rebounds and made both of her three-point field-goal attempts, as well. Senior guard
Kristen Olsen (Staten Island, N.Y.) was 5-of-10 from downtown, en route to a 15-point day.
Leading 22-20 nearly two minutes into the second quarter, the Pioneers (10-14, 6-8 ECC) reeled off a 21-6 run in a seven-minute stretch to widen their advantage to 43-26 with 57 seconds remaining. Moore led the way with nine points in the burst. Olsen and sophomore guard
Shannon Doyle (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) each sank a three-pointer.
The green and gold shot a sizzling 50.0 percent (17-of-34) from the field and three-point range in the opening half of play. They also out-rebounded the Redhawks (14-10, 8-6 ECC) by a 23-15 count in the first 20 minutes.
In the third quarter, LIU Post still led by double digits (51-34), until Roberts Wesleyan ended the period on a 17-7 streak to cut the deficit to 58-51. Junior guard Brooke Fields (Owings Mills, Md.) paced the Redhawks with seven points in the run.
Then, in the fourth quarter, Roberts Wesleyan opened the period on an 11-2 spurt in a span of 4:44 to grab their first lead of the contest at 62-60. The Redhawks eventually built as much as a six-point cushion (69-63) with 3:10 to go.
The Pioneers responded quickly though, as a
Robyn Francis (Rosedale, N.Y.) jumper at the 2:24 mark closed the gap to a one-point game (69-68).
However, Roberts Wesleyan turned up the defensive pressure and limited the visitors to just one field goal in the final two minutes of regulation to secure the come-from-behind win.

Naya Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y.) finished with nine points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists in the effort. Doyle collected five points, nine rebounds and three assists. Francis scored seven points in 15 minutes off the bench. Senior guard
