Moore Earns ECC Co-Rookie of the Week Accolades

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Feb. 13, 2017) - The East Coast Conference released its weekly women's basketball awards Monday, and LIU Post freshman forward Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) was recognized as the league's co-rookie of the week.

It is the third time this season that Moore has been named the ECC Rookie of the Week. She previously received the honor on Nov. 21 and Dec. 20.

Moore, who scored in double figures in a pair of contests last week, averaged a team-leading 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. She shot a sizzling 51.6 percent (16-of-31) from the field in the process.

Moore opened the week last Wednesday (Feb. 8) with a 14-point, six-rebound performance in a 74-68 victory against Mercy. Her 14 points were tied for the second-highest scoring output in the game.

Then, on Saturday (Feb. 11), Moore recorded her second-best showing in an ECC contest this year with a 26-point outing at Roberts Wesleyan. That mark trailed only her 30-point effort at UDC on Jan. 4.

Moore currently leads all freshmen in the conference in scoring at 15.9 points per game. She has also made the fourth-most field goals (133) in the league and boasts the sixth-highest field-goal percentage (.477) in the ECC.

Moore and the Pioneers are back in action Wednesday (Feb. 15), when they host University of the District of Columbia in an ECC showdown at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
