Women's Basketball Loses to Queens on Senior Day, 76-56

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 18, 2017) - The LIU Post women's basketball team lost a 76-56 decision to East Coast Conference foe Queens College Saturday in its 2016-17 regular-season home finale at the Pratt Recreation Center.

Freshman forward Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) amassed 14 points and eight rebounds in the defeat. Sophomore forward Sasha Patterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting and grabbed five rebounds.

Tied at 12-12 late in the opening period, Queens (23-3, 16-1 ECC) went on a quick 7-0 spurt to grab a 19-12 lead at the 9:54 mark of the second quarter. Senior guard/forward Madison Rowland (Albany, N.Y.) drilled a pair of freebies and a jumper in the run. Freshman guard Beth Bonin (Cicero, N.Y.) sankĀ a three-pointer.

The Knights, who shot 46.4 percent (13-of-28) in the initial 20 minutes of play, eventually built as much as a 14-point advantage (36-22) in the first half and brought a 36-24 cushion into the locker room.

In the second half, Queens kept up the offensive intensity and widened the gap to a 25-point difference (55-30) with 2:49 remaining in the third quarter to pull away for the win.

For the contest, LIU Post shot 34.5 percent (20-of-58) from the field, including a 41.4 percent (12-of-29) clip in the latter 20 minutes. The Pioneers also shot a stellar 86.7 percent (13-of-15) from the charity stripe.

Senior guard Kristen Olsen (Staten Island, N.Y.) had six points, six rebounds and two steals in the effort. Junior guard Naya Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y.) added four points, five rebounds and four steals. Senior forward Janaysia James (Perth Amboy, N.J.) pitched in four points, three rebounds, one block and one steal.

Head Coach Deirdre Moore and her LIU Post squad return to action Wednesday (Feb. 22), when they face University of Bridgeport in a crucial ECC match-up in Bridgeport, Conn. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m.
