PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 19, 2017) - The LIU Post women's swimming team improved to fourth place in the standings Saturday at Day Two of the 2017 Metropolitan Conference Championships in Piscataway.
For the second-straight night, the Pioneers kicked off the finals with a relay win. The foursome of junior
Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany), sophomores
Karis Fuller (London, England) and
Caitlin Johnstone (Ashburton, New Zealand) and freshman
Tove Sparrman (Upplands Väsby, Sweden) clocked an NCAA "B" cut of 1:43.67 in the 200-yard medley relay.
Johnstone and Bendfeldt also swam to winning times in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke, respectively. Johnstone touched the pad at an NCAA-provisional 1:04.30, while Bendfeldt made it to the wall in 55.63, which was good for an NCAA "B" cut.
Fuller followed Bendfeldt in second in the 100-back, clocking an NCAA-provisional 55.67. Sophomore
Elin Kvarnemar (Varberg, Sweden) finished fifth in the same event at a personal-best 58.96.

Eline Swensen (Langhus, Norway) placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.56. Sparrman, who was second (1:54.15) in the preliminaries, came in fifth in the finals at 1:54.66.
Additionally, Swensen and Sparrman teamed up wth Fuller and freshman
Elizabeth Law (Chester Springs, Pa.) to swim a second-place mark of 7:46.85 in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
In the 100-yard butterfly, freshman
Cassie St. Angelo (Wakefield, R.I.) was third in the "B" final and 11th overall with a personal-best time of 1:00.31. Fellow freshman
Jessica Argelander (La Verne, Calif.) won the "C" final in 1:01.74.
Lastly, in the preliminaries, junior
Jacqueline Tonn (Edmonton, Alberta) swam a lifetime-best 1:08.21 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Sophomore
Brianna LiCausi (Howard Beach, N.Y.) raced to a personal-record 1:00.61 in the 100-yard backstroke.
