PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 19, 2017)
- The LIU Post women's swimming team improved to fourth place in the standings Saturday at Day Two of the 2017 Metropolitan Conference Championships in Piscataway.

For the second-straight night, the Pioneers kicked off the finals with a relay win. The foursome of junior Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany), sophomores Karis Fuller (London, England) and Caitlin Johnstone (Ashburton, New Zealand) and freshman Tove Sparrman (Upplands Väsby, Sweden) clocked an NCAA "B" cut of 1:43.67 in the 200-yard medley relay.

Johnstone and Bendfeldt also swam to winning times in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke, respectively. Johnstone touched the pad at an NCAA-provisional 1:04.30, while Bendfeldt made it to the wall in 55.63, which was good for an NCAA "B" cut.

Fuller followed Bendfeldt in second in the 100-back, clocking an NCAA-provisional 55.67. Sophomore Elin Kvarnemar (Varberg, Sweden) finished fifth in the same event at a personal-best 58.96.

Sophomore Eline Swensen (Langhus, Norway) placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.56. Sparrman, who was second (1:54.15) in the preliminaries, came in fifth in the finals at 1:54.66.

Additionally, Swensen and Sparrman teamed up wth Fuller and freshman Elizabeth Law (Chester Springs, Pa.) to swim a second-place mark of 7:46.85 in the 800-yard freestyle relay.

In the 100-yard butterfly, freshman Cassie St. Angelo (Wakefield, R.I.) was third in the "B" final and 11th overall with a personal-best time of 1:00.31. Fellow freshman Jessica Argelander (La Verne, Calif.) won the "C" final in 1:01.74.

Lastly, in the preliminaries, junior Jacqueline Tonn (Edmonton, Alberta) swam a lifetime-best 1:08.21 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Sophomore Brianna LiCausi (Howard Beach, N.Y.) raced to a personal-record 1:00.61 in the 100-yard backstroke.

Head Coach Michael Travers and his LIU Post squad wrap up competition at the 2017 Metropolitan Conference Championships on Sunday (Feb. 19) at the Rutgers Aquatic Center in Piscataway.
