Women's Basketball Drops 2016-17 Finale at Molloy, 58-49

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Feb. 25, 2017) - On Saturday, the LIU Post women's basketball team lost a 58-49 decision to East Coast Conference foe Molloy College in its 2016-17 season finale at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre.
Sophomore forward
Sasha Patterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) turned in her fifth double-double of the year in the effort, amassing 14 points and 16 rebounds. Senior guard
Kylie Garrett (Mount Orab, Ohio) had 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Freshman forward
Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) chipped in nine points, five rebounds, four blocks and two assists.
Down 6-5 at the midway point of the first quarter, the Lions (20-8, 12-6 ECC) reeled off a 10-0 run in a four-minute span to grab a 15-6 lead at the 54-second mark. Graduate guard Kamala Thompson (Selden, N.Y.) capped off the burst with a pair of three-pointers.
Molloy, which shot 42.8 percent (6-of-14) from downtown in the opening 20 minutes of play, eventually built its lead to 20-9 in the second quarter and took a 10-point advantage (31-21) into the half.
The Pioneers, who trailed by as many as 12 points (33-21) in the game, rallied in the second half and closed the gap to a five-point difference on three separate occasions in the fourth quarter.
However, the Lions had an answer for each of the visitors' comeback attempts, including a 6-for-6 showing at the free-throw line in the final minute of regulation.
Senior guard
Kristen Olsen (Staten Island, N.Y.) totaled six points, three rebounds and two assists in the loss. Junior guard
Naya Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y.) added three points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Senior forward
Janaysia James (Perth Amboy, N.J.) scored two points, to go along with six rebounds and two assists.
