OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Feb. 4, 2017) - Senior guard
Kristen Olsen (Staten Island, N.Y.) tied her season-high with 21 points Saturday, but it wasn't enough, as the LIU Post women's basketball team fell to East Coast Conference arch-rival New York Institute of Technology, 59-53, at Recreation Hall.
She was 9-of-17 from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range, in the loss for the Pioneers (9-13, 5-7 ECC). Freshman forward
Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) added 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
Leading 12-11 after one quarter of play, the green and gold opened the ensuing period on a 10-4 run in a span of 5:44 to widen their advantage to 22-15 at the 4:02 mark. Olsen accounted for the first nine points of the burst. Moore capped it off with her second trey in as many games.
However, the Bears (12-9, 6-7 ECC) ended the quarter on a 15-4 streak to go in front 30-26 at the break. Junior guard Nina Vukosavljevic (Belgrade, Serbia) hit a go-ahead three with 37 seconds left in the half.
In the third quarter, Olsen, who led all players with 12 points in the latter 20 minutes, got things started for the visitors with back-to-back buckets to even the score at 30-all.
From there, the two teams exchanged three tied scores and seven lead changes, before NYIT closed out the game on a 9-0 spurt to earn the victory.
Garrett buried three trifectas on the afternoon, en route to a nine-point day. Sophomore guard
