CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Apr. 11, 2017) - After breaking the school record in the shot put, freshman
Kaitlyn Klein (Richmondville, N.Y.) of the LIU Post women's outdoor track and field team was named the East Coast Conference Field Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Klein surpassed the record Saturday (Apr. 8) with a heave of 11.93 meters (39 feet, 1.75 inches) at the TCNJ Invitational. Her toss bested former standout Dora Daniels' mark of 11.86 meters (38 feet, 11 inches) in 2004.
On Mar. 25, Klein nearly broke Daniels' record at the Monmouth Spring Opener, but came up just a half-inch shy with a throw of 11.85 meters (38 feet, 10.5 inches).
Klein and the Pioneers return to action this weekend (Apr. 14-15), when they compete at the Metropolitan Championships at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J.
