BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 2, 2017) – Senior pitcher
Jake DeCarli (Higganum, Conn.) threw a complete game Sunday to lead the LIU Post baseball team to a 4-2 victory against East Coast Conference rival Mercy College at the LIU Post Baseball Field.
After a rocky first inning, the Pioneers (11-11, 3-2 ECC) managed to answer back right away by scoring two unearned runs in the bottom half.
The green and gold capitalized on a two-out fielding error by the Mavericks (8-13, 1-4 ECC) in the inning, which evened the score at 2-all.
Two frames later, a run-scoring sacrifice fly from sophomore outfielder
Dave Brehm (Bohemia, N.Y.) put the Pioneers ahead by a score of 3-2.
That lead was extended in the bottom of the eighth, when senior outfielder
Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) came home on a throwing error.
DeCarli struck out eight and walked just three batters, en route to his second complete game of the season. With the victory, the right-hander is now 4-1 on the year.
Head Coach
Mike Gaffney and the Pioneers return to action on Tuesday (Apr. 4), when they square off against ECC foe Queens College in Flushing, N.Y. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
