Seader, Fortin Earn Major ECC Softball Awards

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (May 4, 2017) - On Thursday, the East Coast Conference awarded its year-end softball honors, and LIU Post sophomore catcher Julia Seader (Piscataway, N.J.) and freshman outfielder Abbey Fortin (Langley, British Columbia, Canada) were named the league's co-player and rookie of the year, respectively.

Seader, who shared the honor with Mercy's Morgan Lloyd, was one of only four hitters in the ECC to bat .400 on the season. She leads the league in runs scored (36), hits (66), doubles (12), RBIs (43) and total bases (115), en route to being selected to the All-ECC First Team.

Additionally, Seader, a two-time ECC Player of the Week selection, has launched 11 home runs in 2017 and boasts the second-highest slugging percentage (.697) of any player in the conference.

Meanwhile, Fortin is the second Pioneer in as many years (Seader, 2016) to be recognized as the ECC Rookie of the Year.

Fortin, an All-ECC first-team choice, has hit .274 in a 49-game span with a league-best 13 home runs and 29 RBIs. She is also tied with Seader for the conference lead in runs scored and ranks in the Top-10 in the ECC in slugging percentage (.561).

Lastly, sophomore pitcher Hannah Olshevski (Robbinsville, N.J.) landed a spot on the All-ECC Second Team.

Olshevski currently leads the ECC in complete games (21), while placing third amongst conference pitchers in wins (14), saves (2) and earned-run average (2.05). She has allowed two runs or fewer in 15 of her 24 starts and fanned a team-high 77 batters in the process.
