BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Jun. 28, 2017) - In its first year as a program, the LIU Post women's bowling team was tabbed as a recipient of the National Tenpin Coaches Association Academic Team Award on Monday.
The Pioneers were one of just 36 programs to receive the honor, after compiling the nation's second-highest grade-point average (3.69) in the 2016-17 campaign.
In addition, the green and gold had six of their seven bowlers named to the NTCA All-Academic Team. They were
Stefania Cuomo (Valley Stream, N.Y.),
Nadine Bruno (Rosedale, N.Y.),
Alexis Kosakavich (Plainview, N.Y.),
Emily McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.),
Brielle Spillett (Yaphank, N.Y.) and
Leslie Tincopaonetto (Glen Cove, N.Y.).
To be eligible for NTCA All-Academic status, a student-athlete must have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher in the specified academic year.
The Pioneers posted a 13-36 record in their inaugural season and finished fifth at the East Coast Conference Championship. They also beat a pair of Division I opponents and earned a third-place showing at the EIBC Championship.
