BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The No. 7 LIU Post women's soccer team improved to 5-1-0 on the season with a 3-1 victory over Stonehill College (3-4) Monday afternoon at the Pioneer Soccer Park.
Sophomore
Gabrielle Clark (Edmonds, Wash.) led the Pioneers to victory, scoring two goals in the second half. Clark's first of the day was off a deflected header by
Andrea Huntzinger (Stockholm, Sweden), putting LIU Post up 1-0 at 6:28. Four and a half minutes later
Alice Schonfeldt (Burtrask, Sweden)cleared the ball out of a scramble in front of the goal to find the foot of Clark, for the 2-0 lead after finding the lower right corner of the goal. Clark's second goal proved to be the eventual game-winner.
Stonehill's pressure led to the Skyhawk's lone goal of the game. Nicole Garfield prevented the shutout in the 66th minute but that was the last time Stonehill would find the back of the goal. LIU Post notched an insurance goal at 73:09 when Huntzinger took the ball up the right side and nailed a strike into the lower left of the cage.
Junior
Hillevi Eklow (Väröbacka, Sweden) earned the win with a season-high seven saves on the day.
