WACO, Texas - In this week's release of the American Football Coaches' Association Division II Top-25 Poll, the LIU Post football team held onto the ninth spot, as released on Monday.
This ranking comes after the Pioneers improved to 3-0 after overwhelming Stonehill by a score of 51-16 on Saturday at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium. The win marked the second-straight season that LIU Post hung 51 points on the Skyhawks after the green and gold beat Stonehill, 51-20, last season.
Graduate quarterback
Yianni Gavalas, named Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week for two-consecutive weeks, completed 35 of his 43 tries through the air, good enough for a 81.4 completion percentage. The Manhasset native accumulated 406 passing yards and connected for four touchdowns on the day.
LIU Post racked up 572 votes, making it three straight weeks of an increase in votes as its last week total was 560. Conference-rival Assumption jumped into the rankings for the first time at No. 24 after receiving votes the previous two weeks. The Pioneers are set to host Greyhounds on Saturday, Sept. 30 for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
Spots 1-13 in the poll remained the same from the previous week.
Head Coach
Bryan Collins and the Pioneers are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 23 when they travel to Waltham, Mass. to take on Bentley at 2 p.m.
