SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The No. 18 LIU Post women's soccer team notched two first-half goals en route to a 2-1 victory over Southern New Hampshire University at Abdow Field on the campus of American International on Sunday morning.
Less than nine minutes into the contest, freshman forward
Erin O'Connor (Setauket, N.Y.) registered her second goal in as many games as the Penmen (1-1) keeper Paige Salmon kicked the ball into her and O'Connor knocked it back into the goal.
Junior forward
Andrea Huntzinger (Stockholm, Sweden) also tallied her second score of the season off a feed from sophomore forward
Julia Duffy (Oceanside, N.Y.) in the 21st minute, doubling the Pioneers' (2-0) lead.
Neither side would find the back of the net over the next 60 minutes until SNHU's Trisha Luis was awarded a penalty kick at the 81:38 mark which she converted to cut the LIU Post lead in half at 2-1.
The Penmen would manage to get two more shots off in the contest, but a save by junior netminder
Hillevi Eklow (Väröbacka, Sweden) and a block by the LIU Post defense stifled the last opportunites for SNHU to tie up the contest.
Eklow finished the contest with 10 saves, allowing just one goal while Salmon turned aside three shots in goal for the Penmen.
Up next for the Pioneers is their home opener on Thursday, Sept. 7 when they host Nyack College for a 4 p.m. start at Pioneer Soccer Park.
