AMHERST, N.Y. - Senior guard
Kristen Olsen dropped 21 points, including draining 7-of-9 from behind the arc, to lead the LIU Post women's basketball team to a 81-57 victory over East Coast Conference-foe Daemen on Friday night in Lumsden Gymnasium.
The first quarter proved to be the only frame the Pioneers (11-5, 6-0 ECC) would lose, trailing by a lone point (11-12) at the first intermission which would be the final time over the course of the contest that the Wildcats (5-11, 2-4 ECC) would hold a lead.
The green and gold then jumped ahead after the second quarter, outscoring the home squad 25-17 in the frame. During the stanza, Olsen would sink four in a row from downtown to give her squad a seven-point advantage at the half (36-29).
Heading to the locker room for halftime did not slow down the Pioneers, as they came out firing in the third with their biggest margin of scoring (28-17). The fourth quarter was more of the same as the green and gold came away with a 17-11 margin of victory in the frame. As a whole, the Pioneers knocked down 10-of-14 treys in the second half as
Taylah Hudson and
Shannon Doyle each were a perfect 3-for-3 while Olsen and
Kylie Garrett made 2-of-3 attempts apiece.
Olsen led both squads with 21 points, while
Sasha Patterson and
Mikaiya Moore chipped in with 16 and 13 points, respectively.
LIU Post held the advantage in most categories, including bench points (24-13), points in the paint (26-24), second-chance points (14-1), assists (24-12), turnovers (15-18), steals (6-5), points off turnovers (18-9), and rebounds (38-30).
The Pioneers return to action on Sunday, January 14 when they head over to Rochester, N.Y. for a match-up with ECC-rival Roberts Wesleyan. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
