BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The LIU Post women's basketball rolled to its 10th East Coast Conference (ECC) victory of the season, taking down the University of Bridgeport, 78-51 Jan. 31.

The Pioneers improve to 10-1 in league play with the victory while the Purple Knights slip to 3-9.

The Green and Gold controlled the tempo throughout the game's entirety, leading wire-to-wire for the win. LIU Post was solid across the board, shooting 42.2 percent (27-64) from the field and held a 42-36 advantage on the glass. The Pioneer defense forced 28 Purple Knight turnovers, leading to a significant 30-10 advantage in points off turnovers. The offense was just as efficient on the opposite end of the floor, recording 18 assists on the 27 made field goals, led by junior Shannon Doyle with five helpers. Doyle also chipped in 11 points as one of five Pioneers in double figures. Senior Sasha Patterson tallied her eighth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore Mikaiya Moore netted 14 points as well. Sophomore Asia Turner added 13 points, and senior Kylie Garrett tallied 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers.

The Pioneers took the lead 28 seconds into the contest when sophomore Taylah Hudson put home a layup after recording a steal on Bridgeport's first possession. The Purple Knights tied the score twice on the following two possessions, but the Pioneers took the lead for good when Patterson took a pass from Doyle to put LIU Post ahead 6-4. That bucket sparked a 13-4 burst by the Pioneers and the Green and Gold took a 21-14 lead into the second quarter. It was more of the same in the second stanza, and LIU Post closed out the first half on a 5-0 run to lead 41-29 at the midway point.

After a low-scoring third quarter, the Pioneers put an exclamation point on the win with a 23-point fourth, taking their largest lead at 33 points just past the midway point of the frame.

The matchup with the Purple Knights marked the end of a three-game road trip for the Pioneers, as the team returns to the Pratt Recreation Center for the first time since Jan. 17 when they host Mercy College Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1:30 p.m.
