OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Despite a late comeback, the LIU Post women's soccer team settled for one point after finishing with a 2-2 draw at the New York Institute of Technology during the 2018 edition of the Battle of the Boulevard rivalry at President's Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
An eventful final 10 minutes of regulation sent the contest to overtime as the two teams combined for three goals, two ties, and one lead change. The flurry of goals began when junior
Gabrielle Clark headed in a long corner kick from redshirt-junior
Alice Schonfeldt along the far post to level the scoring at 1-1. Just two minutes later, junior
Julia Duffy gave the Pioneers the lead when freshman
Kendra Oldroyd snuck a pass through the defense and Duffy finished to the left side of the goal. The lead was short lived, however, as the Bears found the back of the net 69 seconds later on a ball that careened off of a collision at the top of the box to send the game into overtime.
During the first overtime period, NYIT had a great opportunity late, but a challenged attempt by Casey Luongo trickled just wide of the right post as the game extended into the second overtime stanza.
Neither team could generate many offensive opportunities over the final 10 minutes as the drama-filled second half led to an eventual offensive stalemate and 2-2 final score.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 13 when they travel to Mercy College for a 12:00 p.m. start.
