WASHINGTON, D.C. – The LIU Post women's tennis team closed out its fall portion of the 2018-19 schedule at the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday, Oct. 20.
The Pioneers came up short to the Firebirds in the regular season finale, falling 7-0 to drop to 2-5 in East Coast Conference play. The win lifts the District of Columbia to 5-2 in league play entering the ECC postseason next week.
Senior
Shanice Arthur and sophomore
Veronika Koudelkova earned the lone victory for the Green and Gold on the day as the duo improved to 3-5 in dual matches with a 6-4 win against Simone Parn and Marija Milic. The Firebirds took Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, however, to earn the opening point of the match entering singles play.
Arthur suffered a narrow 6-4 decision in the opening set against Parn and could not regain momentum in game two, falling in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. Junior
Charlotte Hynes took an early lead against Joann Skrzpcynska, 2-1, before being forced to retire from the match at No. 3 singles. Sophomore
Christina Jud took one game during each set against Paula Avellan before ultimately falling in straight sets.
