PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Sophomore
Erin O'Connor scored twice and the LIU Post women's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 victory at Jefferson University at Ravenhill Field on Monday, Oct. 22.
With the win, the Pioneers extend their unbeaten streak to 12 matches, going 9-0-3 during the stretch to improve to 11-2-3 overall on the season. Jefferson drops below .500 with the loss at 7-8-1 overall.
The shot advantage favored LIU Post as the Pioneers garnered 19 shot attempts to just eight by the Rams. Senior goalkeeper
Hillevi Eklow tallied seven saves to record her eighth shutout of the season. With the shutout, Eklow improves her shutout streak to 399:04, having not allowed a goal until the 86th minute against the New York Institute of Technology on Oct. 10.
It took less than five minutes for the Pioneers to net the eventual game-winning goal on Monday, as freshman
Kendra Oldroyd headed in a cross from junior
Shakila Sevanan for her seventh goal of the season. The Green and Gold tacked on two more goals during the first half, when junior
Julia Duffy scored from close range during the 36th minute and O'Connor took a long pass from senior
Alice Schonfeldt and beat Rams' goalkeeper Erin Tinneny one-on-one for the third goal of the day.
The momentum continued during the second half when freshman
Terese Markelund headed in a goal on assists by Schonfeldt and junior
Paige Sherlock during the 60th minute.
Sydney Pasquarella continued to pour on the goals with her second goal in three games as O'Connor dribbled along the end line and found the sophomore open in the box to make it 5-0. O'Connor capped off a five-point effort late in the match when she touched down a pass from freshman
Brianna Stalzer and beat Tinneny with a shot from the top of the box for the 6-0 final score.
The Pioneers look to close out the regular season with a big matchup against the 12-4 Stonehill College Skyhawks on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 11:00 a.m.
