YAPHANK, N.Y. – The LIU Post women's equestrian team opened its 2018-19 campaign by placing first at the St Joseph's College (L.I.) Show for the third-consecutive year Sunday at Good Shepherd Farm.
Four Pioneers finished first and second in their respective classes to tie for high point rider; senior
Mallory Slack, sophomores
Hedda Walltott and
Jenna Skaferowsky and freshman
Miko McGovern. Skaferowsky also secured a spot at regionals after pointing out of intermediate over fences and Slack won her open over fences and finished second in her flat.
Senior
Jessica Sulkers started off the first round of the day with a win in open over fences and later placed third on the flat. Senior
Chloe Hoerner also finished third over fences and won her flat class. Junior
Sam Ayala also finished second in open over fences in her first show as a Pioneer.
McGovern topped the intermediate over fences class and sophomore
Mackenzie Ashe placed third alongside junior
Alex Daskam who finished fourth. Freshman
Grace Titus finished also finished in third place in a competitive class. Senior
Trina Aspenleiter topped the intermediate flat class while Daskam finished second and Ayala third. Junior
Cara Sappelsa also topped the B section of the flat class and senior
Vanessa Finazzo finished second.
Freshman
Katherine Garcia and sophomore
Savannah Giardina topped the novice fences class. Sophomore
Ashton Guilfoile finished in third place on the flat and freshman
Kara Bromschwig topped the class. In section C of novice flat, freshman
Olivia Butler and Titus finished in first and second place as LIU Post topped yet another section of the show.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Coletta finished the day with a win in the walk trot division to close out the show.
