BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – It was a dominating performance for the LIU Post women's soccer team as the Pioneers took down Lincoln University in East Coast Conference action, 5-1 on Sunday, Sept. 7 at Pioneer Soccer Park.
The Green and Gold controlled the match from the opening kick, outshooting the Lions 24-12. Junior goalkeeper
Katie Bendersky made her collegiate debut in goal, making nine saves to earn the victory for LIU Post. Lena Rodriguez made 12 stops for the Lions during the loss.
Freshman
Kendra Oldroyd opened the scoring with two goals during the first 16 minutes and classmate
Emily Tirado added a third goal moments later to help the Pioneers carry a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
Sophomore
Alyssa Torres scored her first career goal 10 minutes into the second half to increase the lead to 4-0. Freshman Sydney Kiyabu also found the back of the net for the first time in her career late in the contest. Bendersky made seven saves during the second half, though Lincoln broke through for its only goal during the 71st minute.
With the win, the Pioneers improve to 8-2-1 overall and 4-1 in ECC play while the Lions drop to 0-11 overall and 0-6 in league action.
The Green and Gold return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 10 when they travel to the New York Institute of Technology for the 2018 edition of the Battle of the Boulevard rivalry. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at President's Stadium.
