WHITEHALL, Pa. – Freshman
Rhianna Smith earned most valuable player recognition to lead the LIU Post women's bowling team to a second-place finish at the Kutztown University Duals at Jordan Lanes on Saturday, Nov. 3.
Smith took home the top individual honor after averaging a 217.67 score over five matches, including a team-high game of 258.
The Pioneers opened the team match portion of the event with a 946-858 setback to Molloy College. The Green and Gold bounced back quickly, however, as Smith rolled her high game to pace the Pioneers to an 898-882 victory against Bloomfield College. The final team match of the day came against the No. 22 Golden Bears, where Smith once again led the Pioneers with a game of 223 to earn a narrow 813-800 triumph.
In the Baker format, LIU Post opened against Kutztown once again, though the roles were reversed as the Golden Bears earned a 14-pin victory, 832-818. The Pioneers had their high game of the match with a 180 in game 1. The Pioneers closed out the event with their best performance of the season, posting a 995 against Bloomfield. The team opened with a 215 game, followed by games of 148, 190, 194, before closing out the match with an incredible team performance by shooting a 248 in the final game to help the Pioneers to a 199-pin victory.
The Pioneers will have nearly a month off before returning to action at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Wilmington University on Saturday, Dec. 1 and Sunday, Dec. 2.
