WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – The East Coast Conference announced the LIU Post women's basketball team as the league's preseason favorites as voted by the conference's coaches on Thursday, Nov. 8.
Along with the top spot in the preseason coaches' poll, graduate student forward
Sasha Patterson earned the league's Preseason Player of the Year recognition, garnering the most votes among the coaches as well.
Patterson closed out the 2017-18 season averaging 15.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. During the regular season finale, she posted one of her best performances of the year with 27 points and 20 rebounds against Roberts Wesleyan College.
LIU Post compiled a 22-8 overall record a year ago, finishing 17-1 during conference play for one of the best finishes in program history. The Green and Gold captured the regular season conference championship and No. 1 overall seed for the ECC Tournament. In addition, the Pioneers earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament before falling to the University of the Sciences in the opening round.
The regular season opens up on Saturday, Nov. 10 when the Pioneers take on Pace University inside the Center for Recreation and Sport at Adelphi University at 1:00 p.m. The Pioneers dropped an early-season exhibition matchup at Division I Coppin State University, 84-80 on Oct. 27.
