Bowling Storms Back on Day 3 of Wildcat Invitational to Finish Third

WILMINGTON, Del. – The LIU Post women's bowling team stormed back on the final day of the Wildcat Invitational to take third place in the 12-team Divisions II and III event held at Bowlerama from Nov. 30-Dec. 2.
 
LIU Post finished the event in third behind Chestnut Hill College and Caldwell University. During the event, the Pioneers finished 7-6 overall, knocking off nationally-ranked Adelphi University along the way.
 
The Pioneers opened the event during the Baker format on day one, finishing the day in fifth place overall with 4,283 total pins. In the opening match, LIU Post defeated New Jersey City University, 782-733 before falling to Medaille College, 935-878 the following match. The Green and Gold added a victory against host Wilmington University during the Baker format while suffering narrow defeats to Caldwell and Chestnut Hill. Junior Bailey Lubrano led the Pioneers on the opening day with a 177 average, converting 82-percent of her spare opportunities and posting a 35-percent strike percentage.
 
On Saturday, the Pioneers opened the traditional format with a 2-3 overall record, entering the final day of competition in sixth place. In the bracketed final day, LIU Post opened against fifth-place Wilmington and took games one, three, four, and five to earn a 4-1 victory in the best-of-seven format. The Pioneers continued to bowl incredibly well in match two, coming from behind to earn four-consecutive game wins against Molloy to earn a 4-2 triumph against the Lions. The excitement continued in the final match of the day when the Pioneers took on the two-day tournament leader and nationally-ranked Panthers of Adelphi during the third-place match.
 
The Pioneers won the first three games of the match, making it seven-consecutive game victories overall. The Panthers stormed back with three-consecutive wins of their own, averaging 182 pins per game to level the match at 3-3. The Pioneers roared back with a game of 199, posting strikes in frames 7-10 to earn a 24-pin victory to take third place.
 
"I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of these girls and the teamwork they displayed this weekend was absolutely incredible," commented head coach Ed Raven.
 
The Pioneers return to action at the Kutztown Invitational after the new year at Limerick Bowl, Jan. 19-20.
