QUEENS, N.Y. – Senior Sasha Patterson scored 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double in her last five games to help lead the LIU Post women's basketball team past Queens College, 85-65 Feb. 10.

Sophomore Mikaiya Moore also had an excellent game for the Pioneers, scoring 18 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out five assists. Fellow sophomore Dominique Williams rounded out a trio of LIU Post double-figure scorers, dropping in 12 points while also hauling in five rebounds in just 15 minutes.

The Pioneers again led wire-to-wire, taking the lead just 46 seconds into the game on a Patterson jumper and never looked back. LIU Post took a five-point lead (19-14) into the first intermission and expanded the lead to eight points (37-29) by halftime.

The Knights put a run together during the third quarter, cutting the deficit down to two points (46-44) with 4:24 remaining, but the Pioneers stopped the bleeding with triples by junior Shannon Doyle and senior Kylie Garrett. The Pioneers closed out the stanza on a 7-2 burst to carry a 60-51 lead into the final period. An early 11-0 run by the Green and Gold ballooned the lead up to 20 points, and the Pioneers eventually led by as many as 24 points (79-55) before closing out the 20-point victory.

A win by St. Thomas Aquinas this afternoon allowed the Spartans to keep a half-game advantage over LIU Post for first place in the conference standings with four games remaining on the schedule for the Pioneers. The Green and Gold return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 14 for a Valentine's Day matchup at the University of the District of Columbia beginning at 5:00 p.m.
