WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – Following an excellent week for LIU Post athletics, four Pioneers earned recognition from the East Coast Conference (ECC) as athletes of the week, the conference office announced Feb. 19.

Men's lacrosse freshman attacker William Snelders and junior goalkeeper Bryan Ochs earned Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, while women's basketball senior forward Sasha Patterson was named Player of the Week and baseball sophomore Noah Lorenzo was tabbed as Pitcher of the Week.

Snelders had an outstanding collegiate debut against American International College, recording 10 points behind an eight-goal, two-assist effort. The Port Jeff Station native led all ECC players in goals and tied for the top spot in points through the season's opening games.

Ochs was impressive as well in the team's season debut, recording a .625 save percentage against the Yellow Jackets. The junior made 10 saves in his fourth career start, allowing just six goals to earn the victory.

The LIU Post women's basketball team extended its current win-streak to six games, including a 77-66 victory against Saint Thomas Aquinas College to move into first place in the conference standings. Patterson was a huge factor in both games, as the senior averaged 18 points and 15 rebounds for the week. After scoring 19 points and grabbing 13 rebounds against the University of the District of Columbia, Patterson netted 17 points and hauled in 17 rebounds against the Spartans for her 12th double-double of the season. For the season, Patterson ranks 22nd in the nation among Division II players in double-doubles and ranks fourth in the nation in offensive rebounds per game.

The Pioneer baseball team began the season 2-2 after splitting two doubleheader matchups in South Carolina last weekend, using a dominating effort on the mound by Lorenzo. The southpaw tossed a complete game during a 4-2 victory against Limestone College, allowing just three hits while striking out six for his first win of the season.

It is a busy weekend ahead for LIU Post athletics, as baseball makes its second trip south to the Ripken Experience Northeast Challenge in Myrtle Beach beginning on Thursday, Feb. 22. Men's and women's basketball will host Daemen College for Senior Night on Friday, Feb. 23 and close out the season at home against Molloy on Sunday, Feb. 25. Men's and women's lacrosse will also be in action on Saturday, Feb. 24 as women play host to Southern New Hampshire University at 11:00 a.m. and the men host No. 4/5 Adelphi University at 2:00 p.m.
