MINEOLA, N.Y. – The LIU Post bowling team added a pair of seventh-place finishes at the Molloy Invitational and Molloy Baker Challenge this weekend.
On Saturday, Feb. 24 the Pioneers competed at the Molloy Invitational, a one-day event. LIU Post finished the day 4-1 in its matches, beginning the day with a 912-864 triumph against Medaille College, followed up with a narrow victory against Wilmington University, 810-798.
After erasing a 41-pin deficit to defeat Molloy 853-837, the Pioneers continued their streak with a victory against St. Thomas Aquinas College. In its final match, the Green and Gold suffered its first setback, coming up short to Franklin Pierce University.
"I am very proud of these girls for the effort that they put in both during practice and during competition," said head coach Ed Raven. "They continue to show 'never say die' attitude and fight to the very end of each match."
Freshman
Patricia Kelly led the Pioneers with a 189.5 average for the day, earning a spot on the all-tournament team after posting the third-highest average at the competition. Junior
Sarah Busse averaged 177.9, while freshman
Emily Cavanaugh added a 169.7 average.
On Sunday, Feb. 25, the Pioneers competed in the Molloy Baker Challenge, posting another seventh-place finish. To open the day, LIU Post came up just short to St. Peter's College, 789-809. In their second match, the Pioneers bounced back with an 865-794 victory against New Jersey City University, and coupled it with a victory against Saturday's first-place finisher, Daemen College. The Green and Gold suffered two setbacks to Adelphi University and Medaille to close out the day.
Kelly was named Sunday's Tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 195.6 to earn first place in the competition. Kelly averaged nearly eight pins better than her nearest competitor during the baker format.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday, March 2 when they travel to Egg Harbor City, N.J. to participate in the Hawkflight Invitational hosted by Monmouth University.
