ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 8/12 LIU Post women's lacrosse team bounced back from two losses to nationally-ranked opponents with a 16-15 victory against No. 6/7 University of New Haven at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex March 13.
The win against the Chargers improves LIU Post's record to 17-2 in the all-time series. Despite the Pioneer success, the last five matchups have now been decided by two goals or less, with the Green and Gold taking the last four contests.
Sophomore
Alyssa Mallery led the offensive attack for the Pioneers with a career-best six goals on 10 shots. Sophomore
Brianna Feldman also boasted a new career-high with five tallies, while classmate
Paige Sherlock added four goals.
On the defensive end, the Pioneers were a solid 11-of-13 on clear attempts and as a team, LIU Post committed just six turnovers during the contest.
Despite being in control for much of the game, the Pioneers were forced to fend off a late rally by the Chargers to earn the victory. Trailing 16-12, New Haven scored three goals during the final minutes to make it 16-15, but LIU Post held on for the win to earn its first victory against a nationally-ranked opponent this season.
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, March 21 at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium when they battle East Coast Conference foe Molloy College at 3:00 p.m. in game two of a men's/women's doubleheader.
