Moore Tabbed as ECAC Coach of the Year, Patterson Named All-Region

DANBURY, Conn. – Head Coach Deirdre Moore was named Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Coach of the Year and senior Sasha Patterson was named first-team All-ECAC and second team All-East Region by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association as announced March 13.

In her 10th season at the helm of the LIU Post program, Moore turned the Pioneers into true contenders in the east region, compiling one of the best regular seasons in program history. After missing the postseason during each of the past two seasons, the Pioneers captured the ECC Regular Season Championship by posting a 17-1 record in league play. The one loss is the fewest in conference play in over 20 seasons, and the Pioneers eclipsed the 20-win mark for just the sixth time in program history this year. Despite a loss in the East Coast Conference semifinals, the Pioneers clinched a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament for the fifth time during Moore's tenure.

One of the major keys to success this season was the breakout season for Patterson. The Brooklyn native ranked third in the nation in offensive rebounding, while also ranking in the top-15 in double-doubles. For the year, the senior post player scored over 16 points per game while hauling in 10 rebounds per game. To close out the regular season, Patterson put forth one of the best performances of her career, scoring 27 points and hauling in 20 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive glass, to help the Pioneers clinch the outright regular-season championship. She ended the season with another great performance in the NCAA East Region quarterfinal against the University of the Sciences, scoring 21 points and grabbing 13 rebounds for her seventh consecutive double-double.
