ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Women's Basketball head coach
Deirdre Moore was voted East Coast Conference (ECC) Coach of the Year, while three other Pioneers garnered All-ECC accolades as announced at the conference awards dinner Friday, March 2.
Senior
Sasha Patterson was named first team All-ECC, while sophomore
Mikaiya Moore gathered a spot on the second team and senior
Kylie Garrett captured third team accolades.
In her 10th season at the helm of the LIU Post program,
Deirdre Moore turned the Pioneers into true contenders in the region, compiling one of the best regular seasons in program history. After missing the postseason during each of the past two seasons, the Pioneers captured the ECC Regular Season Championship after posting a 17-1 record in league play. The one loss is the fewest in conference play in over 20 seasons, and the Pioneers eclipsed the 20-win mark for just the sixth time in program history this season. The Green and Gold rank sixth in the Division II East Region and are searching for its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance under Moore's guidance.
One of the major keys to success this season was the breakout season for Patterson. The Brooklyn native ranks third in the nation in offensive rebounding, while also ranking in the top-30 in double-doubles. For the year, the senior post player has scored over 16 points per game while hauling in just under 10 rebounds per game. To close out the regular season, Patterson put forth one of the best performances of her career, scoring 27 points and hauling in 20 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive glass, to help the Pioneers clinch the outright regular-season championship.
Patterson's counterpart in the frontcourt has been equally impressive this season.
Mikaiya Moore captured the second all-conference accolade of her career for her performance, scoring over 13 points and grabbing over five rebounds per game to go with nearly 1.5 assists per game. Earlier this season, she had a career performance against Pace University, scoring 34 points on 14-of-19 shooting. Moore enters the postseason having finished in double figures in the scoring column during 13 straight contests.
Rounding out the Pioneer all-conference honors was Garrett who has proven to be one of the biggest outside threats in the ECC. The Ohio native has not slowed down since breaking the single-season three-point record at LIU Post a year ago, leading the team with 54 made triples. The 54 three's ranks fifth in the conference, while her 39 percent shooting percentage from long range ranks second. Garrett matched her career-high in made three's twice this season, knocking down five shots from three-point range against Molloy College and the University of the District of Columbia.
The Pioneers continue their season Saturday, March 3 when they battle New York Institute of Technology in the ECC Semifinals at 12:00 p.m.
