BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore
Alyssa Mallery scored a career-high seven goals to lead the No. 6/9 LIU Post women's lacrosse team to a dominating victory against Stonehill College Saturday, March 31 at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Mallery notched three goals during the first half before netting four consecutive goals over a span of 11 minutes during the second half for the new career-high. The sophomore midfielder was just one of six goal scorers for the Green and Gold, with classmate
Paige Sherlock adding three goals and fellow classmate
Brianna Feldman and junior
Trish Brisotti netting two goals apiece.
The Pioneer offense had one of its most efficient performances of the year, recording just 22 shots on the day and 19 shots on target, with 16 finding the back of the net. The Skyhawks held a 24-22 advantage in shots, but senior
Olivia Kirk was outstanding in goal, making 11 saves on the day for her seventh victory of the season.
It was all LIU Post during the first 15 minutes, as the Green and Gold tallied the first five goals of the contest midway through the opening stanza, including a beautiful finish by sophomore
Jill LoManto through traffic. After trading the next six goals, the Pioneers closed the half on a 3-0 burst to take an 11-3 lead into halftime.
Stonehill struck first in the second half, needing just 66 seconds to find the back of the net. Any momentum was immediately halted, however, as LIU Post countered just 38 seconds later when Mallery sparked a five-goal streak to put the Pioneers ahead 16-4, securing the team's seventh victory of the season and fourth in a row.
The team returns to East Coast Conference action on Wednesday, April 4 for the fourth game of a five-game home stand at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium. The opening draw against the Purple Knights is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
