Preview

CLERMONT, Fla. – The LIU Post softball team opened it's 2018 season with a doubleheader split with Le Moyne College at the PFX Games, falling 3-2 in game one before bouncing back with a 5-0 victory in game two.

Sophomore Abbey Fortin recorded finished 2-for-6 at the plate, hitting a home run and a double. Freshman Amanda Arena kicked off her collegiate career with a two-hit day as well, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored, while classmate Breanna Klaiber homered in her collegiate debut.

Game One – Le Moyne 3, LIU Post 2

In the top of the first, the Pioneers put two runners in scoring position with one out, but could not push a run across. Le Moyne jumped ahead in the bottom of the frame behind a two-run home run by Lauren Zazzaro, and just one runner advanced past first base for LIU Post during the team's next three at-bats.

An RBI single in the bottom of the fourth extended the Dolphins' lead to 3-0, in what proved to be all the run support that Alexis Eastman needed. The Pioneers threatened in the sixth when Klaiber lifted a two-run home run to cut the deficit to one run, but it was as close as they could get the rest of the way.

Junior Hannah Olshevski tossed a complete game for the Green and Gold, scattering five hits and allowing three runs in her season debut while striking out three.

Game Two – LIU Post 5, Le Moyne 0

Sophomore Katie Humhej was stellar in her debut in the circle, tossing a complete game shutout, allowing five hits while striking out four and stranding four runners on base. In the bottom of the second, the Pioneers took advantage of two Le Moyne errors to plate two unearned runs.

After going down in order in the third, Fortin led off the fourth with a solo home run, and the Green and Gold tacked on two more runs later in the frame when senior Jaclyn Hahn drove in sophomore Megan Sneeden and Arena with a double for the game's final tallies.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, March 7 when they face Bentley University at 9:00 a.m. and the University of Southern Indiana at 11:30 a.m. at Legends Way Ballfields.
