BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Post women's tennis team competed in its first of two spring matches on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Wilmington University Wildcats, 7-2, on a warm day at the LIU Post Tennis Courts.
The Pioneers got both of its points in doubles action, as junior Lara Scholtze and freshman Veronika Koudelkova defeated Andrea Ribalta and Laura Gil at the No. 1 court in a close 8-6 match. At No. 2 doubles, junior Shanice Arthur and classmate Stanislava Klymova defeated Begona Gomar and Anushka Sathe with an identical 8-6 score.
Scholtze and Arthur played well at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, taking each of their matches to three sets. Scholtze won the first set, 6-3, however fell in the next two sets, 6-4. Arthur defeated Laura Gil in her first set by a score of 6-2, before falling in the next two sets, 6-3 and 7-5.
The Pioneers return to the court on Sunday, April 22 for a match at Adelphi University. First serve at the Adelphi tennis courts is slated for 10:00 am.
