GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The LIU Post women's tennis team closed out its spring season with a narrow 5-4 defeat to Adelphi University April 22.
 
Junior Lara Scholtze earned a three-set victory at number one singles and freshman Veronika Koudelkova earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory at number four singles for the Pioneers. LIU Post also earned two victories by forfeit at number three doubles and number six singles for the team's final two points of the day.
 
Scholtze and Koudelkova battled at number one doubles, but could not get past Rebecca Fakas and Karen Serina, falling 8-4.
 
On the number one singles court, Scholtze took the opening set against Fakas, 6-4. Fakas battled back with a 6-1 victory in set two to force a tiebreaker. In the third set, Scholtze cruised to a 10-5 victory to earn what proved to be the final point of the day for the Pioneers.
